During their regular January meeting, the Sand Springs Board of Education celebrated outstanding individuals and organizations contributing to our school community. Here are the highlights.

Three schools were recognized for their commitment to promoting health and well-being by earning the title of Certified Healthy Oklahoma School. The honored schools include:

  • Angus Valley Elementary

  • Garfield STEAM Academy

  • Clyde Boyd Middle School

The Certified Healthy Oklahoma program acknowledges schools, businesses, and other entities that actively prioritize health initiatives. The Sand Springs Public Schools district as a whole was named a Certified Healthy Oklahoma Business, demonstrating a districtwide commitment to fostering a healthy environment for students and staff alike.

Charles Page High School Senior Addison Hughes received the Sandite Spirit Award for her outstanding achievements in both athletics and academics. Hughes’ dedication and talent have earned her a spot on the 6A East All-State Softball Team for the 2024-25 season. Additionally, she was recognized as a member of the 6A All-District Softball Team, highlighting her exceptional performance on the field.

Reworld Tulsa received the Sandite Spirit Award for their unwavering support of Limestone Technology Academy. In Spring 2024, the organization donated their time and resources to revitalize the school's flower bed. More recently, Reworld contributed a new water bottle filling station, supplied organizational tools for the lost and found, and hosted a holiday luncheon for Limestone’s faculty and staff. Their generosity and commitment to enhancing the school environment have made a lasting impact.

January is School Board Recognition Month, and at the January meeting, Superintendent Sherry Durkee recognized the Sand Springs Board of Education.

Our board members – President Jackie Wagnon (not pictured), Vice President Whitney Wagers, Deputy Clerk Mike Mullins, and Members Tracy Hanlon and Bo Naugle – play a huge role in shaping the future of our students and schools. From developing policies and managing budgets to advocating for important initiatives, they help make sure our schools run smoothly and our students succeed.

These dedicated volunteers have been a cornerstone of support for our district. We’re grateful for everything they do to support our schools and community. Thank you for your leadership and care. You are truly appreciated!
