Sand Springs, OK— This month’s Sand Springs Board of Education meeting was a heartfelt occasion as members bid farewell to Jackie Wagnon, who attended her final meeting as a board member. Wagnon, who has served the community since 2011, participated in 168 board meetings during her tenure, making a lasting impact through her dedication and leadership. Service on the board is unpaid, highlighting Wagnon’s commitment to the betterment of Sand Springs Public Schools.
During the meeting, Superintendent Sherry Durkee expressed her appreciation for Wagnon’s years of service, emphasizing the qualities required of a board member. “It takes courage. It takes resilience. It takes a little bit of tough skin,” Durkee remarked, acknowledging the challenges and responsibilities that come with the position.
In recognition of her contributions, Wagnon received a commemorative trophy as a token of appreciation for her years of service. The room was filled with gratitude, admiration, and a few misty eyes for Wagnon’s steadfast support and advocacy for students, educators, and the community.
Stepping into Wagnon’s seat will be Alesha Spoon, who ran uncontested for the position. Spoon’s transition into the role marks a new chapter for the board as they continue their mission to advance educational opportunities in Sand Springs.
Sand Springs extends its heartfelt thanks to Jackie Wagnon for her years of dedicated service and wishes her all the best in her future endeavors.
