Sand Springs Public Schools’ (SSPS) Angus Valley Elementary (K-5th) will break ground on a new separate gymnasium on Friday, October 30, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. The new gymnasium is part of the $32.85 million bond passed by Sand Springs voters in March 2019. This new separate structure will also provide a much-needed hardened space for storm protection.
“We are thrilled to start the next major bond project and are thankful for the voters of Sand Springs who understand the critical importance of supporting our students. The new Angus Valley gymnasium will be such an asset to the site for many years to come,” said SSPS Supt. Sherry Durkee.
Angus Valley is the only school site in the SSPS district that shares a gymnasium, cafeteria and auditorium space. A new separate gymnasium will allow for the gym, cafeteria and auditorium spaces to be used simultaneously, without the need to tear down and set up for use.
“We are incredibly grateful to have a gym that will also serve as a safe place to take shelter in a storm,” said Angus Principal Angelia Noel. “Having a dedicated gym will allow us to utilize the cafeteria for periodic large group instruction or assemblies without sacrificing scheduled instructional time. Additionally, having a safe space will offer peace of mind for the entire Angus Valley family.”
The gymnasium was designed by KKT Architects and LD Kerns Contractors will begin construction next week, after the ground breaking ceremony on Monday.
Angus Valley Elementary is located at 412 West 55th Street in Sand Springs.
